Friendsgiving

One thing that I love to do but have a hard time doing in an apartment is
having people over.
I absolutely love parties.
But how do you do this in an apartment with no backyard?
Well, luckily I live across the street from my church and had a crazy idea.
What about a friends-giving?
Here is what I did,
I told my friends lets get together and eat.
Everybody brought something and we ate… and ate… and had a ton of leftovers!
I kept decorating simple and thanks to all my wonderful friends it was able to happen.
Here are a few snap shots.

I had everyone write down what they were grateful for and clip it onto a string.

thank you pinterest for simple decorating tips
all the fancy decor was brought by my friend Christin (she is pro at decorating)

Lots of people came. For privacy reasons I won't blast all their pictures on the blog.
But I promise people came! We had a great feast and a great time.
I think this will become a new tradition.
Thank you friends!

Dad's 50th Birthday Surprise Party

My Dad just turned the big 50 this past week!
I don't know about your family but nothing says I'm 50 better than boating right?

Here is Dad wake boarding away!

Adam and I on the tube. I think Mom was trying to kill us.
My back and arms hurt for days!
Although boating was super fun it just wasn't big enough for a 50th bash...

Surprise Part...

I volunteered myself as honorary person in charge of the surprise party.
I didn't realize how hard it is to pull off a surprise.
Luckily my mom and dad have amazing friends who helped so much!
The Clingers even offered to have the party at their house (which was a HUGE blessing!)
After a bit of planning, some stress, and a phone call we somehow got dad over to their house without
having a clue what was going on.

Here we are...

Yes, that is a depends diaper cake in the middle of the table!

The fabric banner mom and I made. Turned out amazing!

We are not even allowed to say sucks at our house so I thought only in this context is this ok.

Lauren made this for Dad. It is too true! She did an amazing job!

Group photo! Happy birthday Dad I hope you wont ever forget your 50th!

The Highest Peak in Utah: Kings Peak

 Kings Peak Hike

If you can't tell I like to hike.
Something about hiking up a mountain is very rewarding to me.
I however am not a big fan of camping.
I love building a fire, eating the food, telling the stories, but something about not sleeping all night
is not my fav.

For Kings Peak we decided to backpack into dollar lake (something most people do)
Then hike the next day, but unlike everyone else we would hike the mountain and continue to the car.
Sounds easy enough right? How does 31 miles in two days sound? Ya, thats what I thought.

The expedition was led by Adam. Dad and I just tagged along. I have to admit I thought my dad would slow us down but he proved otherwise as he was the first one to the car when all was said and done.

Here is our trip...

Starting out at the trail head... nice and clean!

About 5 miles onto the trail you have this nice foot bridge. (If we were to do it again this is where we would have stayed) The farther you go with the backpack the farther you have to take it back.

Almost to dollar lake (about 8 miles from the trail head). We are pointing to Kings Peak.

Our base camp. The fire ban for the area was lifted and we were all very grateful to have our fire.

Beautiful sunset. Great place to be for a birthday retreat.
So you take all your backpacking stuff in. After somewhat of a nights sleep we got up had breakfast
and packed up our stuff and then brought out our day packs. Took our rain coats, water, and food and headed up the real part of the adventure.

I thought I'd spare you the grueling photos of the climb... lets just say it was very steep and very rocky. We actually took a short cut (not very well marked but well known) and supposedly it saved an 1hr.
Here we are at the summit though a whooping 13,528.
The last 1,000 feet though is super rough. I was really worried about altitude sickness but we all did very well.

Till it hailed, and hailed again, then rained all over us!

This is dad and Adam SOAKED!
A picture can't capture the feeling but lets just say it wasn't a good time to find out your gear isn't water-proof its water resistant.
We had 8 miles of walking with our heavy backpacks soaking wet and chilled.
On the way down we passed a girl in short shorts and I wanted to tell her I hope you brought pants because this is NOT a hike for shorts. From what I hear showers are very common up there.
If you decide to do this take the best gear and pack light. There are plenty of places to get water so don't pack 2 days worth of water.

We were crazy and did it in 2 days something else I don't recommend. I would recommend 3 if you want to backpack in. But to be honest backpacking isn't my favorite so if I could do it again I would camp at the trailhead then trail run the first 8 miles then hike the way to the top then back down and then trail run/crawl the last eight (doing it in one day)
I like trail running a lot better than backpacking.
Its lighter, faster, and makes me happy.

And you can ask the boys how happy I was the last eight miles.

Adam turns 25!!!!

Today is Adam's Birthday!!!!

Everyday I am grateful this man walked into my life.
Not only did he walk into my life he helps me be a better person and loves me through
everything.
He is a God fearing man that works hard to provide for our little family.
He does the best he can and knows how to just laugh things off.
He is smart, kind, and funny. And... dang good looking!
He is respectful and sensitive.
A cowboy and a city boy.
He likes the beach and the snow.
He is an excellent skier, a great listener, and very patient.
He isn't a casanova or rascal flatts kinda guy but
he calls me everyday on his way to work.
Kisses me goodbye every morning.
Sends me love texts.
And helps out at home.
He would rather spend time with me than anyone else.
Which is the best message of I love you and much more valuable than money.
He shows me everyday he loves me by the little things.
Happy Birthday!
I love you baby!

This is at Texas Roadhouse last night. (Adam has to work all day and night today)
He is getting sang to on the saddle they had there. Ha ha

We have a no-firework law right now because of all the fires going on.
But Adam wanted to burn something really bad. So we let him burn this squishy toy.

This picture was taken this morning right before work! Adam is wearing the pin Garett
sent him for his birthday (its a pin with old people) ha ha!

Thayne and I are going to make him a cake for when he gets home!

Thayne's present to Daddy...
A stainless steel trash can.
Adam really wanted one. We had a super gross cheap one from college and it
bothered Adam pretty bad.

Adam already got most his presents early (we just couldn't wait)
Our big adventure will be this weekend when we go do Kings Peak (highest peak in Utah!)

The Oregon Trail Part 2: Thayne's Birthday!

2nd Part of the Oregon Trail

The beach...
For Thayne's birthday we took him to an aquarium! We all had a lot of fun.
I think Thayne's favorite part was splashing in the water at the touch tank...

And squishing the poor creatures. That was the last poke before I pulled him out!

Papa found him this wonderful cupcake creation with sea creatures. For his first birthday
cake

It didn't take long after that first photo for Thayne to dive in...(if you can't tell by the tiny hand about to grab the cake)

The cake never stood a chance against Thayne.

After demolishing his cake we decided to take Thayne to the beach. He loved the sand between his toes!

and water...

And in his mouth...

After packing everything from the beach we headed to Aunt Cindy's and Uncle Dave's house.
We stayed the night and had a fabulous breakfast and visit. Then it was off back to Utah.
It was so good to see everyone!

I'm so glad we were brave enough to travel with a crazy, cute, cuddly, toddler. Thayne hasn't ended our lives
he has started them!
Happy Birthday little man!

Lake Blanche Hike

Lake Blanche Hike

Here is the gang! Adam found this hike from Utah's Incredible Backcountry Trails

We love that book! More importantly we love the hikes. Thayne is about to be 1 and wants to
"walk" everywhere so as you can imagine hiking in a pouch was hard for him so we
let him stretch his legs...

He loved trying to walk over the rocks
The whole hike you are surounded by vegatation. So PRETTY!
There wasn't a boring part about it. This is the view you are rewarded with...

We ate lunch on some big rocks. Something that I really loved about the hike is how you don't feel rushed to get back down. A lot of the times when you summit a mountain there isn't room for everyone. That wasn't the case at Lake Blanche there was plenty of room!

Group photo at the end of the trail

Thayne walking on the way back to the car

Totally worth the hike!

P.S. Just got myself some North Face Goretex Hiking shoes... AMAZING!!!
Highly recommend good shoes. There were a lot of rocks on the trail and I didn't have a problem with them
but Adam told me that he felt every single rock he stepped on and it wasn't comfortable.
Get some good shoes!

Mothers Day Weekend

Part of the apartment living is finding and using multifunctional things.
Something that we love to do is go on bike rides.
My mum got Thayne this wonderful multifunctional baby thing...

We love it! More importantly though is Thayne loves it.
It hooks onto the back of your tire but better yet you can fit 2 little bodies.
Even better it also double as a jogging stroller. (and still fits 2 little bodies.)
(Don't worry I'm NOT pregnant nor thinking about having another one any time soon)
I just love that if we take care of this and our other stroller we wont have to buy another stroller again!

Don't let him fool you he was asleep half the time.

As we were biking we heard some very loud motors...
come to find out a motor cross race was going on right next to the bike trail!
This bike/jogging trail goes on and on. Pretty sure we did over 20 miles.
We started in Bountiful and ended up in Salt Lake. I believe its called Legacy Parkway.

Sunday

Mother's Day

We started the morning off right by skyping Garett.
We are all so grateful that we are able to see him on Mothers Day.
but that also meant that he gave the best mothers day gift.
He is serving in England right now and has some sort of Chinese/British accent
My friend Amber also came to visit. We went on a lovely walk around the Bountiful temple.

Mom reading the card I wrote her

She wanted skinny jeans pretty bad and I found some at the DI... couldn't help it.

Before dinner a friend from the ward came over and brought mom this sweat band,

it's actually too true.

Hope you all had a fabulous mothers day weekend! We sure did!
